NAIDOC 2023

Last week MPPS was a hive of activity, celebrating and participating in all things NAIDOC. There was a staggering variety of events, activities and learning opportunities for students and staff alike.

The week started with the whole school watching the Wadumbah Dance Company, after A Welcome to Country by MPPS School Board Member and elder Aunty Freda Ogilvie. Following this we had the Early years Nyungar Story time, a Blanket Activity for the year 5 & 6s, Didgeridoo decorating and First nations music to name a few activities.

Another special event during the week included lessons delivered by Aunty Freda in conjunction with Reconciliation Australia for our Year 4s.

On Thursday the students were treated to delicious Bush Tucker from our wonderful volunteers Freda,  Narelle, Shakira and Haylee. Dishes sampled included Kangaroo stew and Damper. A number of MLC student volunteers then delighted our kids offering lunchtime face painting, braiding and other painting activities. Thanks to MLC for stepping in at the last minute so brilliantly.

In a couple of weeks our Yr 3 & 4s will also participate in Djerapin Kaa Kaa.

Events like this spread over the week only happen with additional hard work by amazing staff members, so thank you to the staff who made this all happen.
