NAIDOC Day 2022

NAIDOC Week is one of our favourite weeks at Mosman Park Primary. This year's theme is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! And our students have been learning about how to do just that.  Under the guidance of our Reconciliation Action Plan Working Party and NAIDOC Committee, we have been studying Aboriginal heroes of the past and the present. People such as Adam Goodes, Cathy Freeman, Archie Roach, Eddie Mabo, Charles Perkins and Pemulwuy to name just a few. Each of them got up, showed up and stood up for their people (moort), culture (Karrtdijin) and country (boodja).  Students have been taking part in yarning cirlces to discuss what they have learned about these heroes over the past few weeks.  They have been working with artist (and school mum), Kahlie Lockyer to create a stunning new mural depicting our heroes and the values they demonstrated. Thank you once again, Kahlie. Charmaine Climo and Renata Coyne from the Department of Education have taught our Years 3 and 4 students some more about Aboriginal culture and stories with their Djurpin Kaa Kaa (Happy Kookaburra) presentation.  And because it is Book Week we have also had an Aboriginal author in the school.  Our Pre-Primary students met Scott Wilson, author and illustrator of Little Bullock Ngooloog Ngooloog.
