Anzac Day 2022
We recognised Anzac Day on Friday 8th April, the last day of Term 1. As with a lot of things in the last couple of years, our gathering was slightly different from our traditional service. Classes watched a virtual Anzac Day assembly in which they saw a video story about an Aboriginal serviceman, Reg Saunders. Instead of a school choir, they heard a song by Paul Jarman, called Shackleton, about the Antarctic expedition by Ernest Shackleton whose men survived one of the most harrowing expeditions only to return home to a world that succumbed to war. At 9.30 we welcomed special guest Warrant Officer (Class 2) Sharn Stratton as well as local Rotary Club member Margaret Baldwin OAM. Year 6 students lead a socially distanced wreath laying ceremony and raising of the flags from half mast. After the ceremony students had a chance to talk to Officer Stratton and ask questions about his experiences in the armed services.
Individual classes undertook other activities. All classes placed their remembrance poppies outside their classroom, and also some activities such as making their own poppies to wear or creating a poppy wreath outside their classroom door.
The ANZAC tradition lives on at Mosman Park Primary School.
